Sports Newsletter Spring 2016
Over the last few weeks we have seen the conclusion of all the winter leagues and we have also taken part in some other events.
Our 4 runners completed all 4 races and their overall positions were Patrick 10th Y4, India 2nd Y5, Alex 8th Y6, Seb 9th Y6.
All our runners were selected to represent Penwith at the County finals which took place last week. Well done to you all, this is always a tough event but they took it all in their stride. Special mention for Seb and Alex who have represented Penwith in years 4,5 and 6.
The team won their league and went on to finish 3rd overall in the Penwith finals. This is the first time Pendeen have made the finals and the standards are very high. Well done Lili’Bo, Sam, Polly, India, Ewan S, Heidi, Seb, Angela and Ellie.
The team finished 2nd in their league and 2nd overall in the Penwith finals. They will now go on to represent Penwith in the School Games finals in July. This is the 3rd year running Pendeen has made the finals. Well done. Sam, Heidi, Seb, Angela, India, Polly, Stanley, Alex and Ewan S.
Y3/4 Team won their cluster competition at Cape and finished 3rd overall in the Penwith finals. This was the first time most of these children have represented the school at a sports event. Well done. Lilah-Mae, Tia, Millie, Morgelyn, Billie, Reuben, Archie and Oliver E.
Pendeen beat Marazion in the finals and will also qualify for the School Games in July.
Team: Sam, Seb, Alex, Lili’Bo, Polly, Ellie, Ewan S and Heidi.
Sports Hall Athletics:
We have never entered this event before. Each child had to take part in 2 track and 2 field events. This is the first time some of these children represented the school.
Everyone played their part in securing 2nd place overall, which means the team qualify for the School Games Spring finals at Truro School, Sir Ben Ainslee Sports Centre on the 19th April.
Team: Lili’Bo, Ellie, India, Polly, Heidi, Angela, Melissa, Tilly, Demelza, Lee, Alex, Seb, Patrick, Ewan S, Sam, Oliver E, Reuben, Archie.
This short report does not show the effort and commitment these children have shown to their sport. Also thank you to all those who turn up every week but have yet to make it into a team. The teams would not have this success if there was no one to train with. Of course, none of this could have happened without the continued support of parents.
Penwith Sports Partnerships
The school belongs to this association which enable us to organise home/away matches and tournaments in Football and High 5. We also participate in inter-school Athletics, Cross Country, Rounders, Cricket, Tag Rugby, Hockey and Swimming.
Children from this school use Penzance Leisure Centre. Classes attend swimming lessons at different points in the year.
PE & games
Our school participates in many sporting activities which the children enjoy and we encourage participation. Sport enables a child to learn, how to work together as a team and to compete with a positive attitude. The school is fortunate to have three large playgrounds which have been marked out to cover a wide variety of games. The school has a playing field of 6,000 square metres.
There are ongoing long term plans to improve the playground and develop a more stimulating environment for the children to enjoy and learn from. The children are taught gymnastics, dance, tennis, football, high five, rounders, cricket and hockey.
