Welcome to Teyr!

Teyr Class is a mixed year 3 and 4 class taught by the brilliant Miss Sedgeman.

We are very lucky to have the fabulous Mrs Trembath as our teaching assistant who is with us every morning and Monday afternoon, the lovely Miss Over with us for five mornings a week, and the wonderful Mrs Squires with us for four afternoons a week.

Our PE lessons are on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon so please make sure your PE kit is in school throughout the whole week.

Our year ahead:

Autumn Term - We’ll be investigating World War II with our ‘Lest We Forget’ topic. We will kick off with a visit to Flambards to have a tour by an Air Raid Patrol warden through their life-like Blitz experience, then to Trengwainton Gardens to see an air raid shelter as well as their Dig for Victory walled garden.  We shall be considering the viewpoints of evacuees through reading our whole class book, 'Goodnight Mister Tom'. Throughout our topic, we will be learning about life on the homefront and how this helped the British war efforts. In science, we will be exploring how light travels by making periscopes to spot the enemy as well as testing blackout materials suitable for life during The Blitz. In maths, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division shall set up our basis for success for the rest of the year.

Spring Term - This term we’ll be “jetting off” to China! We will learn about the famous dynasties and power of the nation.  We will learn the Chinese New Year making comparisons to our own. We shall also investigate traditional Chinese vases by designing and making our very own out of clay. In maths, we shall be comparing Chinese numbers and have a go at traditional writing. We shall also be continuing our learning with multiplication and division along with learning about perimeter, area and fractions. We will be learning about traditional food and will have the opportunity to visit a Chinese restaurant. We’ll also discover the technological advances made by China and delve deeper into the world of coding. We will learn about the differences in Chinese settlements across the country to understand how Chinese people live as well as all the geographical features of it's place in the world. Throughout this adventure, we’ll also read The Magic Paintbrush and delve into the world of Kung Fu Panda.

Summer Term - Our final topic of the year shall prepare us to revel in the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020. We’ll learn about the origins of the games and their more modern counterpart. We’ll take part in a wide range of sporting activities, invent our mascot, Olympic torch and medal for our upcoming 'Pendeen 2020'. Alongside Peswara class, we shall hold our own Olympic Games in school, where we shall invite Key Stage One children and parents to take part.  We will consider, geographically, how the London 2012 Olympics impacted on our country.  We will base our reading around our class text ‘Beasts of Olympus’ and discover the wealth of stories wrapped up in Greek mythology. From this, we will create our own myths linked the origins of a new Greek God /Goddess and portray the stories on our very own Greek pot. In maths, we shall further develop our knowledge in fractions making a link to decimals and then focus on time.
